Description

1. I always add texture on the item. Because any patina will wear off someday. They somethimes cover it with lacquer to protect it. But lacquer will wear off, too. How you can keep the patina for long time is not the real question. The real question is how you can let patina wear off BEAUTIFULLY.  I added hair-line texture on this piece.

2.The agent I use is called "Kokka-eki" that means "Blackening agent". It might not be available in your country. But I think you don't have to worry. It's just ordinary LOS agent.

3. The temterature is the mot important factor. My favorite temp is between 55C-60C. If it's higher than it, the process will be faster but the patina will be easy to peal off. If the temp is lower, the process will take longer time.

4. Don't trust the first result. Patina is something like love. The first one is just an illusion however beautiful it is. It's not real yet.

5. Ptina is also like friends. If they leave just because of small friction, they are not real. You don't need them. Let them go.

6. After polishing with baking soda, you should rinse it carefully. Because baking soda ruins the agent.

7. My 10 count with Mississippi is around 15 seconds. Time is the second important factor. If you dip it too long, you will get extra layer of patina and it will peal off with under layer easily.

8. I suggest applying Renaissance Wax. It gives darker tone and a bit of gloss.

You see many examples in my shop.

Thanks again for a very easy to understand video of your process and accompanying write up. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and look forward to playing with LOS patina your way. My favorite quote “ 5. Ptina is also like friends. If they leave just because of small friction, they are not real. You don't need them. Let them go.” - spot on. Thanks

I'm teaching not only jewelry making hacks but also about life. :)

I agree, it’s not just jewelry making but learning about life in general too! Thanks
