1. Prepare the silver piece.

The depletion gilding must be apllied if it's made of sterling silver.

Because this patina is available only for silver. Without it, you wouldn't get good result.

2. In this video I polished it with a wire brush to get shinny surface.

3. And I polished it with baking soda to degrease.

Degreasing is very important in any patination.

4. Prepare the agent.

You need 100cc vinegar, 6g copper sulphate, and 6g salt.

You might find copper sulphate at aqualium, garden suppliers and hardware shops.

It is available as a fungicide, root killer, algaecide, and herbricide. Be sure it's pure copper sulphate (penta-hydrate) without any additives.

And mix them well.

5. Dip the piece in the agent

Sometimes it gets dark in some minutes even in room temperature but I needed to warm it up in this video.

I use a nug warmer in such a case.

The temp is 50C ( apx.120F) and time is around 5-10 minutes.

Then wash it with running water.

The patina is a bit brownish black. Or it might be dalled dark brown.

I always apply Renaissance Wax as finishing.

As all other patina do, this patina will wear off.

I don't suggest you apply it on a ring.

6. About discarding.

You can use this agent again and again.

But someday you think you need a fresh agent.

This agent includes a lot of copper irons and in many cities it's restricted to dump it in sewed as it is.

You need to eliminate copper irons from the agent before you discard.

To do it, add some aluminum foil in it. Alminum is easier to be ionized than copper is so copper irons are materialized and sink at the bottom of the container.

Then dump only the solution and then wipe out the copper.

To discard the copper you check out the regulations of your city. it's just copper.

You see example pieces in my shop.

Esta pátina funciona sobre cobre o solo es para plata?

Kazuhiko Ichikawa

I have never tried it on Copper But I guess it's only available on fine silver.

I guess you are asking about another video of Hido technique. I polished the surface of the patina with a cotton stick and metal polishing paste called Wenol.
I also use Renaissance Wax on patina. It's for mainly glazing.

Maestro buen dia, una consulta esta patina enegrece el oro? Si tuviera un kumboo y envejeciera la pieza el oro tambien se iria a negro parduzco.
Gracias .

Good morning teacher, a query, does this patina turn gold? If I had a kumboo and the piece aged the gold would also turn brownish black.
Thank you .

Kazuhiko Ichikawa

Thank you for asking.
This patina is available only for fine silver.
You can't apply it on gold.
The reason why fine gold foil of Keum Boo turns brown is when you do Keum Boo, silver particles go up to the surface of gold. You know Keum Boo is based on the exchange of particles between silver and gold. when the temp is too high or time is too long or foil is too thin, it easily happens.
